Accessible footways

We have had contact from one of our residents who is visually impaired and has asked us to remind everyone of our responsibilities for our pavements and spaces outside of our properties.

In particular please can we consider carefully when we ...

  • Park our cars in front of our houses. There should be no overhang into the footway and we must consider whether the visually impaired, wheelchair users or residents using buggies or mobility scooters can pass easily, without using the road.

  • Overhanging bushes, shrubs and trees. Take a moment to check whether any of the greenery from your front garden may cause an obstruction or injury to passers by. If a tree on the street is causing a problem, consider reporting to the council.

  • Finally check if you fences, walls and boundaries are causing obstruction.

Thank you for taking these actions to help and support our residents who rely on our footways to be clear and unobstructed.
