OktoberQuest 2020

Tuesday, September 22, 2020

We can't do Oktoberfest, but there will be an OktoberQuest. Sign up to join in the fun on 3rd October.

Saturday 3rd October 2020 - Please register now to take part.

The event is for all the family, but the later in the evening it gets, the more grown-up orientated the entertainment will be. Here is a link to the schedule of events, but please do bear in mind the timings may vary slightly on the night.

Please don’t forget, this is a charity event and although we are not charging an entry fee, any donations to our charities would be greatly appreciated. Please visit our charity page for details of how to make a donation.  We will also provide information on how to donate throughout the evening.

Thank you.

How do I join?

If you have already registered, then you should have already received our information sheet.  If not, please register as soon as you can so that we can send you the discount codes in time for you to order the wine and beer.

If you’ve taken part in one of our Lockdown Quizzes before, you’ll be familiar with the process.

The event will be hosted on .  If you haven’t used Zoom before, it is a video meeting app which can be downloaded and installed on a PC, laptop, tablet or phone (you will need to sign up first).  We recommend using a PC, laptop or tablet as you’ll need your phone for the quizzes (more on that later). Installing it in advance to the event will prevent delays.

When you are ready to join, you will need to enter the meeting ID which will be provided when you register.

To answer the questions, you’ll need to download the app to your phone or tablet. A phone is ideal for this as you won’t need a large screen for this purpose. We will provide the quiz pin number(s) and more instructions on how to use Kahoot! on the night once you have logged in to Zoom.

What should I wear?

We encourage you to get into the Octoberfest theme to make this event as much fun as possible.  Throughout the evening we will be looking out for households who are participating in the Oktoberfest theme and there will be prizes. Time to dig out those dirndls and lederhosen.

What about food?

We’d normally be firing up the barbeque with a delicious selection of Bratwursts and buns. Sadly we are unable to this year, but we suggest that you plan ahead and indulge in some traditional Oktoberfest fare such as Bratwurst and Pretzels.

Beer and Wine

During the evening we will have beer and wine tasting provided by Park Brewery and Taylor’s Fine Wine.  Josh and Frankie Kearns of Park Brewery and Andrew Taylor have both kindly provided us with a special BRaG discount so if you want to take part and benefit from the discount then please register as soon as you can so that you can place your order in time.

Beer

Park Brewery will provide tasting notes for the following 3 beers:

  • Killcat Pale Ale
(A highly moreish pale ale with hoppy flavours of grapefruit & lemon, combine with a floral aroma from the blend of dry hops).
  • Phantom Kölsch
(brewed with lager malts and fermented with ale yeast at a low temperature then lagered).
  • Schöne Eiche Marzen
(brewed specially for Oktoberfest and recommended for our event.  Read more about it in Park Brewery's Blog).

Wine

Andrew Taylor of Taylor’s Fine Wine has selected three wines for the evening:

  • Walt Reisling 2018
(Medium bodied and just off dry Riesling from the Pfalz region. Lovely refreshing style with hints of apricot and peach.  Grapes harvested with minimum intervention).
  • Villa Wolf Gewurztraminer, Pfalz 2018
(Made in a fruity style that has just enough sweetness to be perfect with spicier dishes, but it is not so sweet that the wine becomes unbalanced).
  • Messmer Made in Pflaz Spatburgunder 2018
(A medium-bodied Riesling with lovely purity of peach fruit and nicely balanced acidity. A great match for fish, chicken and sushi).

Prost!
