BRaG Residents Association

2011 Street Party

Monday, May 3, 2021

As BRaG celebrates it's 10th anniversary here's a reminder of the first street party held for Kate and William's wedding on 29th April, 2011

BRaG started with a group of residents forming a Neighbourhood Watch group and when Kate and William suggested holding street parties to celebrate their wedding on 29th April 2011, it struck a chord and a committee quickly formed to organise it. The rest is history.

The street party on 29th April was much larger than anyone expected and involved a huge amount of hard work from many people. The result was a spectacular day of a community coming together. The weather was kind, children took advantage of the closed streets to ride bikes, play football and games. We had some great music from talented residents, delicious food from local suppliers and the bar flowed freely. There was some dancing in the streets and everyone pitched in with the clear up.

And it was all for charity. Over £3,600 was raised on the day for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and St Luke's Church Roof Appeal.

ITV's Daybreak got wind of our organising skills and sent a team along to film top tips for their 'Guide to Running a Royal Wedding Party' These were broadcast every morning during the week in the run up to the big day. See the film here
