VE Day 75th Anniversary
Monday, May 4, 2020
Friday May 8th sees the 75th anniversary of VE day and under normal circumstances the BRaG team would have been busy planning a street party to celebrate this historical event. We are unable to do this but we won't let the current situation prevent us from marking this significant day whilst remaining safe and we have some suggestions as to how we as a community can still mark the occasion together.
We will be running our weekly Friday night entertainment with another quiz night. This is open to everyone who would like to join in and not just residents of the BRaG streets. It's all for BRaG charities and details about how to donate are here. We'll be showing the The Queen's speech during the quiz and will be encouraging all participants to join in the nationwide singing of We'll Meet Again. test link
Timetable
11.00am - Two-minute national silence to remember the declaration of victory and the end of the Second World War in Europe. St Luke's Church bells will toll six times to represent the six years of WW2 before the two-minute silence.
3.00pm – The Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of World War 2. Social distancing front garden tea parties are suggested but we'll leave that up to you.
6.30pm - BRaG online event kicks off with a round of Pictionary
7.30pm - Quiz starts
9.00pm - Address by The Queen (shown on Zoom) followed by national doorstep rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s "We’ll Meet Again"
Decorations and dressing up
It would be great to see the streets adorned with bunting - you can make your own special VE Day 75 ‘Great British Bunting’ to display at home - here are a couple of useful links
How about dressing up too? We'd love to see everyone on Zoom in 1940s attire and if you could use a 1940's themed virtual background on Zoom that would be even better still!
And, whilst you and your family look so splendid in fancy dress, why not get a photograph taken by local photographer Shaheen Chohan who is offering to take doorstep photographs for a charitable donation. You can contact her at shiny@shinyartsphotography.co.uk

We'll Meet Again lyrics
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies chase
Those dark clouds far away
And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That, as I saw you go
You were singing this song
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day
And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That, as I saw you go
You were singing this song
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day
